Advocacy

Advocacy is one of WHALE’s most important on-going activities. WHALE advocates for historically and architecturally significant properties in several ways:

  • Advocating for demolition as a last resort for historic properties
  • Nominating important, historically and/or architecturally significant resources to the statewide 10 Most Endangered List
    • 2006: Schooner Ernestina nominated to Ten Most Endangered List
    • 2005: Fairhaven Mills nominated to Ten Most Endangered List
    • 1999: Corson Building Complex
  • Promoting and supporting strong Demolition Delay By-Laws
  • Advocating for appropriate restoration of historic buildings
  • Promoting the value and reuse of historic buildings and resources
